If you like reading the Exponent Crime Log, this is the digital successor. This site maps and logs emergency radio traffic, collected using a custom software-defined radio transcription pipeline to provide fast and effective coverage of local events. Due to the broader optimization of the transcription model and signal interference further away, location names may be inaccurate. The raw logs are run through a large language model designed for basic redaction, summarization, and structuring, with human verification and editing before logs are be published. The log is updated every 24 hours, and historical daily logs are able to be accessed by selecting their date.json up at the top. The updating hexagonal map uses privacy-protecting hexagons rather than specific data points to provide both insight and privacy. The radios are now tuned for the West Lafayette Project Hoosier SAFE-T site, so you may see events from as far north as Lake County, and as far south as Putnam County. Not all events on the map are emergencies, so some areas may appear overrepresented due to population density and reporting bias.
